Hlavné námestie, which translates to Main Square from Slovak, is my one of my favorite parts of the Old Town in Bratislava.

This gate is the only one in the city which has preserved medieval fortifications. It was built around the year 1300 and had Baroque reconstructions done in 1758.

Medieval Bratislava

Walking through Bratislava felt surreal. Much of the city consists of medieval structures and roads. I walked along fortified walls, down streets that were wide enough to fit a motorcycle only, and crossed through people's backyards.

Bratislavský hrad
#125 - Friday, December 29, 2017

The Bratislava Castle, or Bratislavský hrad in Slovak, is a castle that sits on the rocky hill of the Little Carpathians directly above the Danube river. The original castle was built between the 9th and 18th centuries, and rebuilt between 1956 and 1964. The site of the castle has been home to castles and structures that date back to 3500 BC.
